Welcome to my working doc for RED, my passion project, that you’re all free to poke around in 🙂 I’m currently in the throes of 3D animating while throwing out old scenes and designing new ones at the same time.

Follow along my weekly blog that I’ll keep updated with goals, ideas, mistakes, and behind-the-scenes footage. Hopefully it’ll also inspire you to keep going with your personal projects!

Week 2: Simulations!

Last week’s goals:

I mostly achieved this week’s goal! I realized that there were some extra things I needed to figure out on my rig like the extra accessories on its face that need to bob as the lion moves. This was my first time playing with dynamics on an IK rig which basically automates the force of gravity. Very cool! Also kind of confusing. I haven’t watched so many Youtube tutorials in a while.

I started out testing out the dynamics on a string of bobbles. My goal was just to figure out how to rig something that would react as the head moved:

Then I started playing with the actual bobbles on its face. A lot of kinks to figure out on this, like how to make sure the objects don’t intersect each other. I put a collider on the actual object itself and the rig went berserk... so back to the drawing board. Also the new version of C4D just stopped working between these attempts so I’m back to the old version 🙂

Other than this crucial piece, the rest of the rig is pretty much done. Here’s me playing with the rig itself (not binded to the lion yet):
